Tater Tot School- Unit 1 cont.
Tater is 39 months old Cheezer is 19 months old.
I’m taking the advice of homeschoolers and to not take our schedule too seriously. Instead of making plans for specific days (which is how Homeschool Tracker is set up), I’ll just make the units and do them until they’re done before moving onto the next. This was our first week using IBB (Itty Bitty Bookworm). I like it, don’t get me wrong, I’m just not sure that I’ll use it every month- perhaps every other month in order to meet our budget. I do love the activites available in IBB, and I really like the print and use convenience of it. As a librarian, I love the choice of books. The literature based program is what I liked about FIAR, but the books from which the activities were really old (and often out of print)and required a lot of prep.
This week we continued to work on our Creation Unit from Hubbard’s Cupboard, and started on Week 1 of September from IBB which is the book I Like Me, the letter L, color red, and circles.
Cheezer is changing her napping schedule, so she’s been awake for some of our homeschooling activities. The markers- aren’t washable. They were so much cheaper than the washable kind, so I got the cheaper version. They have to wash off, right? Well, no, not right away at least.

We talked about Creation days 3, 4 and 5 this week.

In addition to our Day 5 Creation page (forgot to take a pic- sorry), we sorted animals that swim and animals that fly. Tater really enjoyed this activity.

From the IBB curriculum, we did talk about circles and the letter red. We talked about the letter L by glueing lima beans to an L template . The curriculum works on letters not in alphabetical order, but in the order of easiest to hardest to write.

She also learned about the color red and circles. Tater carried these circles in her pocket until she dropped one over the banister of a 2nd story building and we couldn’t find it.

Also from the IBB Curriculum, we read the book I Like Me by Nancy Carlson. We didn’t get to many of the activities included in the curriculum. We’re going to work on them next week, and finish up our Creation study before going onto our next unit.
We’ve had to get used to having Daddy at home in the morning. It is a disruption to our normal schedule. It’s great that he lets me sleep in. I have been having trouble sleeping recently- which is pregnancy related- but earlier than with my last two pregnancies. He starts their day off by pumping them full of sugar and parking them in front of the TV. At least it’s educational TV, right? Daddy is a hero because he lets Tater watch Mickey Mouse Club, which hasn’t made my short list. He has taken on the job of doing the morning devotional with Tater. We’ve backed off from Leading Little Ones to God until she’s a bit older, and we’re just continuing with her toddler devotional book- which she loves.

Cheezer masters the skill of eating with a spoon by eating Mama’s lunch.

Proud!

Our next study will be: the Fall of Man/Adam and Eve from Hubbard’s cupboard and Silly Sally from IBB.

I think Hubbard’s Cupboard is a great resource! And it really covers everything (shapes, numbers, letters, etc.) in its 3’s curriculum. My kid is a little young for it all now. I love the “proud face” pic, its so cute.

Sounds like there is lots of learning going on. I am glad to hear that you are enjoying IBB. I just love that food face on Cheezer. Too cute!

I think you’re so right to just make the plans and not tie them to a time schedule. I have found that I get too frustrated when I try to set times for activities. Life is too spontaneous and unpredicatable for that!
It looks like you’re doing a great job with your children. I love their red hair!
Love,
Penney
